Never leave your coupons behind

When trying to save money, we are constantly on the look out for good deals, the best deals. So each week we compare sales ads and try to find the lowest prices and the best coupons.  One of my golden rules is "Don't go into the store without your coupons." Why you say? Because not every deal is listed in the weekly ad for one.  Most of the best deals are found on the front page, just enough to catch your attention, and get you in the store. I don't know about you but once I've walked in the store the last thing I want to do is go all the way back out to my car for my coupons. And since every deal isn't posted in the ad, you may stumble upon a sale, realize you had a coupon (way out in the car) and then if you're not prepared you have 2 choices: either don't buy or get the product at a higher price, and after all, we are here to save money. Also be careful not to impulse buy.  You may have intentions on just going to the store for one or two things. The stores strategically place things throughout the store and at the check out counter, to catch your eye and before you know it your cart is full of stuff you could have really left behind (until the next deal comes along).
You may not always want to lug your coupon book in the store everytime, but believe me most of the time it is worth it.
I was able to score 16 bottles of Propel water for FREE Sunday because I had my coupon book with me.
How:  The sale (which I didn't see in the ad) was 2 bottles of water for $1 and I had coupons for $1 off 2 bottles.  FREE.  This was a great deal because my boys play baseball and if I buy drinks at the concession stand they are $1.50 each. So this was great savings, and my boys loved it.

Happy shopping/ 2 silly coupon ladies strike again.!!!!!

Go Green Ideas for Kids!

Go Green Ideas for Kids!

No Bottled Water:

  • Rather than giving your children disposable plastic bottles of water, let them choose a colorful, reusable water bottle in which to carry their beverage of choice. You can find fun, washable bottles in a wide variety of colors, sizes and designs at nearly any department store. According to KidsHealth.org, bottled water is no safer or cleaner than water from the tap.

Donate Unwanted Items:

  • When your children outgrow clothes or toys, donate them to a charitable organization. Have your children help you drop the items off to show them how their donations help those in need. Explain that some organizations give the used items to individuals who cannot afford them, and others sell the items and put the proceeds toward helping those who need it financially. Furthermore, this action keeps toys, clothes and books that still have potential use from filling a landfill or dump.

Conserve Resources

Teach your children to turn off electronics, like the television or lights, when they finish using them. According to the EPA, electricity use releases greenhouse gases. You can also teach conservation to your children by encouraging them to turn off the faucet while brushing their teeth. The EPA’s WaterSense program maintains that the average bathroom faucet releases 2 gallons of water per minute, so three to four minutes of running water wastes 6 to 8 gallons

Recycle

  • According to the Captain Planet Foundation website, “Recycling materials not only avoids extra waste through reuse, but reduces the environmental burden of extracting new resources from the earth.” Involve your children in the act of recycling materials such as paper, plastic, aluminum, glass and any other materials accepted by your recycling center. They can help out by rinsing cans and bottles and sorting items into the proper recycling bins. Teach them that the products recycled will be turned into new items instead of sitting in landfills.

Fuel perks from Winn Dixie

There are 2 ways to earn fuel perks at Winn Dixie, but before you can earn them you have to make sure you have a card with the magnetic strip on the back.
The first way to earn is just doing your normal everyday shopping. Thats right every time you shop and spend $25 you earn perks on your card to be used at select gas stations.
The second way to earn is look for special marked items throughout the store.  These products bring extra perks.
After my shopping trip tonight at Winn Dixie I discovered I earned 40 cents off per gallon.  The way gas prices are these days its worth a trip to Winn Dixie.
So many stores have different rewards. Take advantage of the different ways to save.  You would be surprised at all the places you can save.

Why Use Reusable Shopping Bags?

Reusable Shopping Bags?

There are countless reasons why you as an every day American should start to use reusable shopping bags. We have studied article after article, paper after paper, and blog after blog.movement that is sweeping the nation! It is our belief that within five years over 90% of the country will be using a reusable grocery bag! Its time to wake up and smell the coffee we say!
Here are a few of our favorite facts in regards to why we are urging you to make the very important choice to put down your paper and plastic and protect your Earth today! It isn’t too late. In fact, we are just getting started!

• A Plastic bag takes 450 years to biodegrade. Imagine 10 billion of them!
• The production of Paper bags causes 70% more pollution than Plastic.
• When Plastic “photo degrades” it ends up in our oceans. Incidentally, it appears much like a plankton, and is then consumed by fish. Fish eat it, and it winds up on your dinner table. YUCK!!!
• The recipe for making paper bags starts with 1 part pulp, 400 parts WATER. What a waste of water!
• The recycling of plastic emits heavy metals into the air causing extreme air pollution
• An average person will use over 350 bags in a single year!
• In New York City, one less grocery bag per person would reduce waste by five million pounds and save $250,000 in disposal costs!
• In 1999 more than 14 million trees were cut down to produce 10 billion paper bags that were used by Americans that year!

There is no excuse they are to expensive. Publix is always offering specials ( free bags when you purchase a certain product) That is how I got a lot of mine.

Just something to think about!

Coupon inserts in the Sunday paper (4/17)

There will be 4 inserts in this Sundays paper.  2 Smart Source and 2 RedPlum.
I usually buy my papers at the convenient store because I like to look through the papers  before I buy them to make sure all the inserts are there. If you buy your papers from the paper box, your inserts might not be in the paper. Buying from a store and checking for all inserts before you buy is a definate way to make sure you get all the inserts.  Also this is a good way to skim through the inserts to see if you want 1,2,3,4 or more papers.

There are many ways to get coupons. See Dianne's post on "Learn to Coupon."

Happy Shopping

Earth Day April 22nd

Earth Day April 22nd 2011!

There are so many simple changes that you can make in your daily life that will make a huge difference for the Earth and also for your own health. Taking a few simple steps to reduce your carbon footprint can also be fun and educational, and bring a renewed sense of appreciation for the miraculous interconnection of all of life.

  • Save water: Turn off the tap while you're brushing your teeth. You'll save up to 8 gallons of water a day or 2,880 gallons a year. If everyone in the U.S. did this, we'd save 875 billion gallons of water a year.

  • Did you know...
    • For every ton of paper that is recycled, the following is saved: 7,000 gallons of water; 380 gallons of oil; and enough electricity to power an average house for six months.
    • You can run a TV for six hours on the amount of electricity that is saved by recycling one aluminum can.
    • By recycling just one glass bottle, you save enough electricity to power a 100-watt bulb for four hours.

  • Just something to think about.

Paid to shop. It could happen to you

Tonight while a lot of people watched the series "Extreme Couponing," I decided to do alittle of my own. I shopped at 3 stores, but the best stop was my trip to Walmart. In the end Walmart OWED me, thats right they owed me 18 cents.  My bill came to $52.04 and after all the coupons, I had no out of pocket expense but had money coming to me.  So what did I get?

    6 quarts Similac used $5/1
5 small tubes Poligrip (free with coupon)
10 trial size pkg Purex 3 in 1 used $1/1
4 pkg Oscar Mayer Premium Hot Dogs used $1/1
and 1 tube of foot cream

Walmart allows for overage on the coupons. Example: I had several $5 coupons for the Similac. Each quart cost $3.84 so that left $1.16 over that I used towards the rest of my purchase.  The Purex also had overage. For the complete coupon policy, go to the Walmart website and make a copy. It pays to have it handy.

Why not get paid to do what we love

Extreme Coupon Series starts 9:30pm on TLC

EXTREME Coupon series is on at 9:30pm.on TLC.

Remember that this show is about EXTREME COUPONING! You don't have to spend 5 hours in a store to make a difference in your savings. You also don't have to have a EXTREME STOCKPILE! I have a Small stockpile. It's not like you will never be able to get this product again at great deal. Sale cycle's are 6-11 weeks. I like to buy what I know I will use with my coupons at a price that I like to pay when the stores have their sales. Using coupons has given me a chance try new products that I normally wouldn't purchase because they are not in my tap water budget.
So I hope you enjoy the series and it gets everyone excited about couponing and saving money.I enjoy the series. It reminds me why I started couponing in the first place. To be able to provide for my family on a one income budget.
One thing you will find out about the people who love to coupon is that we all want to share with everyone on how to save  using coupon.
